Install xserver-xorg-input-libinput

# apt install xserver-xorg-input-libinput
In most cases, make sure you have the
xserver-xorg-input-libinput
package installed, and not thexserver-xorg-input-synaptics
package.
Create the 40-libinput.conf
file:
# echo 'Section "InputClass"
Identifier "libinput touchpad catchall"
MatchIsTouchpad "on"
MatchDevicePath "/dev/input/event*"
Driver "libinput"
Option "Tapping" "on"
EndSection' > /etc/X11/xorg.conf.d/40-libinput.conf
restart your DM:
# systemctl restart lightdm
or
# systemctl restart gdm3
